DIY Bread for Dollhouse with Baking Soda

Last week, I promised that I would write a post about what you can make from leftover frosting. If you haven’t read the post, you can read it here.

DIY Sponge Cake from Cleaning Sponge for Doll House

After I made these cakes, I had leftover frosting which was very creamy and loose. So I added more baking soda to make the consistency harder like clay and made some miniature baked goods.

If you have some leftover frosting from last week’s post, you can simply add more baking soda and skip step 1.

BREAD

What you need

  • baking soda
  • glue (like tacky glue)
  • acrylic paints (creamy brown-ish yellow for base, brown for baked top part)
  • Mod Podge (optional)

How to make

  1. In a container, add baking soda and glue to make a dough. The texture should be similar to play dough.
  2. Add acrylic paint to make the dough creamy brownish yellow like baked bread.
  3. Shape the dough into the bread of your choice. Don’t worry about making perfect shapes. If you look at bread at a grocery store or a bakery, they are all different and not perfect. But that makes bread look more delicious!
  4. Leave them overnight to dry.
  5. With brown acrylic paint, brush the top of the bread so they look like baked.
  6. Coat the bread with glue or Mod Podge.

MACARONS

What you need

  • baking soda
  • glue (like tacky glue)
  • acrylic paints (pink)

How to make

  1. In a container, add baking soda and glue to make a dough. The texture should be similar to play dough.
  2. Add acrylic paint to make the dough light pink.
  3. Make two small flattened circles like buttons. Stack them together like a macaron.
  4. Leave them overnight to dry.

Hope today’s post helps your next diorama project.

You can make many varieties of baked goods using this baking soda clay. Let me know what you made in the comment.

I renovated Katie’s bakery and display today’s bread and macarons. Be sure to check out more pictures from here.
