Quick & Realistic Doll Photography Hack

Happy New Year, friends. I wish you a year filled with dolls and miniature crafts! What is your New Year's resolution for 2025? Mine is to write more posts for my blog and find more ways to reuse things like plastic packages for miniature crafts.

I am sharing how I quickly took photos to attend my friend's New Year's Eve party. This hack comes in handy when you don't have time to set up a diorama but want to participate in a hashtag challenge. I developed this hack when I realized I am not so good at building a large dioramaπŸ˜… There have been many times I spent time and energy to set up a diorama scene for a hashtag event and ended up not posting any photos because of poor quality. I am not saying this to pity myself but to share how my realization of what I am not good at led to discovering a new way to take a doll photo.

Quick Hack: Party Dress

My friend @breizhdolls invited us to a New Year's Eve party #breizhdollsnyeparty2024. (the party is still going until Jan.2 2025 if you want to attend it.) Although there was no dress code, I wanted to dress my doll in something fancy. This dress is made of a black hairband. Because a hairband was already in a tube, all I needed to do was to cut it to a length I liked. (I sewed a bit around on the top edge to make it nice but that's totally an option.) The dress has burgundy puffy sleeves made of a scrunchie that my daughter won as a prize at the Christmas party. I did not sew it to the black dress. The scrunchie is just hanging the doll's arms through the back of the doll.

Quick Hack: Elevator Backdrop

I decided to make a scene of dolls in the elevator talking about going to the party. So I searched online and found a photo of an empty elevator for a backdrop. Then, displayed the photo on my PC screen and resized it by zooming in/out so the scale matched with dolls. With this hack, the difficult part is to hold dolls in front of a PC screen. Since I used two dolls in this scene, I created a booster by piling a few boxes.

Pick any photo you like as a backdrop. You can add specifics like store names, event signs, etc to make it more fun. (I usually use Canva to adjust photos.) Here are some of the scenes I made.

I added the name of the gym.

My doll is at a book signing event hosted by @ifiwereadoll

Do you think this is a good hack? Let me know in the commentπŸ’•

Cute Children's Book "I Love You" Miniature Printable

My daughter and I have been working on making a miniature children's book printable for a while. We wanted to make a book you could read which means we needed to design and write something meaningful. So it took a while, but finally, we finished! Well...to tell you the truth, we did not draw these cute animals. I found them in Canva and placed them like a children's book. And then my daughter and I brainstormed words to go with the illustrations. This is how the book I Love You was created. Me: Can you write a story to match these pictures? My daughter: I don't know what to write! How about..."You are paw some" for this one? (pointing the page with a dog and puppies.) Me: Awesome! My daughter: I know another one! "Some bunny loves you" but you don't have a bunny one. Me: Let me check if Canva has a cute bunny picture. The book's author does not exist because we made up the name. Someday, we will find a doll for this person like I did for Amelia...

New Doll Times Magazine November 2024: ifiwereadoll

Do you like miniature books? I love miniature books. The book is one of the first items I made for my dolls. When I started making miniatures for Barbie dolls back in 2020, I used to make simple miniature books by cutting and gluing papers. It was easy but looked...you know, not so great. Haha. Thanks to creators like this month's guest for New Doll Times Magazine, there are a lot of miniature book printables available online! This month, the magazine featured Luma, the owner of an independent bookstore in a dolltown created by Chris from  @ifiwereadoll . Luma's bookstore is called The Boreal Quill, a unique one-of-a-kind bookstore.  The Boreal Quill has a great selection of books, hosts book releases and signing events , and offers  a book-swapping program. How cool is this!? So far, two popular authors, Daho  Johansen and Kite Labile, had their book events. You can download their books from here  πŸ‘‰ Printables By Chris @ifiwereadoll Let's dive into the in...

Ken And Barbie Are Over!? Dolltown Daily News Reported

Today's post includes stories of a Ken doll, a great laugh, and a miniature newspaper printable. Have you seen posts by Julia  @plasticplot  on Instagram? Do you know she started a second account @justken61  dedicated just to Ken? Julia's posts are so funny and one of a kind. On her second account (@justken61), Ken is going through self-discovery. He has been Barbie's boyfriend (like in Barbie the movie) and realizes he is not appreciated enough... Here are some posts that I like and summarize Ken's self-discovery journey: Ken's realization Ken and Marla AwaKENing moment More Than Just Ken Barbie and...? KENvention Dolltown Daily News When I asked Julia if she was interested in being featured in New Doll Times Magazine, a 1:6 scale miniature magazine printable, she suggested the idea of using Dolltown Daily News (also a 1:6 scale miniature printable) in her story on Instagram.
